Transition Assurance

Prove the handover happened.

Most handovers are a meeting and a shared folder. Transition Assurance turns one into a case: the responsibilities that must move, the evidence that each one did, the access that was revoked or transferred, and an independent manager's sign-off — without rating anyone.

A handover, stage by stage

What happens, who is involved, and what stops it.

Select a stage to see the people, the knowledge and records involved, the evidence it leaves, and what can hold the case open.

People

  • Asha Rao, leaving the role
  • Her manager, who opens the case

Knowledge and records

  • Transition case TC-0088
  • Reason: internal move, 4 weeks' notice

Evidence produced

Case opened, with the person, the reason and the date.

What can stop it here

Nothing specific to this stage; the case moves on when its records exist.

Fictional case. The stages are the product's; the people and records are illustrations.

Seven kinds of transition

From a planned retirement to a departure with no notice.

  • ResignationA notice period to capture and hand over.
  • Internal transferThe person stays reachable; the role moves.
  • RetirementDecades of judgement, with time to capture it.
  • Long absenceCover that must work from day one.
  • Role changeResponsibilities split between people.
  • Contractor exitKnowledge and access that must not walk away.
  • Emergency departureNo notice, no capture window: the case records what could not be captured.

How it works

Readiness is demonstrated, not assumed.

  1. 01Open the caseChoose the kind of transition, the person leaving, the person or people taking over, and the manager who will sign it off.
  2. 02List the responsibilitiesEach responsibility has a cadence — daily, monthly, year-end, on exception — so nothing seasonal is forgotten.
  3. 03Capture and teachLink each responsibility to its approved procedure, or capture it now. Rule-based proposals flag a missing procedure or checklist item.
  4. 04Climb the ladderLearned, then understood, then demonstrated, then confirmed by a manager. Watching a video is not a handover.
  5. 05Record access custodyFor each access the person held: revoked, transferred or retained, and to whom. It is recorded, never executed in another system.
  6. 06Sign off independentlyA manager outside the leaver's line signs the case off. Signing off early fails, and says which responsibility is still open.

What exists today

Built and tested; not yet in customer use.

What it deliberately never stores: a score, rating, rank or risk level of any person; the value of any credential; or any field an AI could set to approve or sign.
  • Transition cases and knowledge-transfer plans
Open a case when someone resigns, retires, transfers or leaves suddenly, and list the responsibilities that must be handed over.
    Built and tested
  • Successor readiness, demonstrated
Each responsibility moves from learned to understood to demonstrated to manager-confirmed. Watching a video is not a handover.
    Built and tested
  • Independent manager sign-off and handover report
An independent manager signs the case off; signing off early fails, and says why. No score or rating of any person is stored.
    Built and tested
  • Access and custody records
Record which access existed and whether it was revoked, transferred or retained. The platform records the decision; it never acts inside another system.

Fail closed

A sign-off that cannot happen early.

The case refuses sign-off while any responsibility is not yet demonstrated, and says which one, in words. The person leaving and the person taking over each see only their own part; someone outside the case sees nothing.

Bring one real handover to a pilot.

A pilot can run Transition Assurance on a handover you already have coming — with fictional data first, and your own only once terms and a data agreement are in place.
